Plans to reunite with old classmates are bringing Lindale Eagles of all ages together. The Lindale ISD Alumni Association is organizing a multi-class reunion that will include Lindale High School graduates between the classes of 1938–1984.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Lindale High School graduates to the Multi-Class Reunion,” said Mitzi Bjork, the association’s president.  “We hope LHS graduates will also join the Alumni Association, if they are not already a member.  Membership is a great way to network with fellow graduates, keep track of former classmates, and stay informed of LISD events.”

The reunion will be Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the new Lindale Junior High School campus, the day after homecoming.  Guests will have the chance to visit the high school campus and tour the adjacent Performing Arts Center.  Class pictures will be taken at the reunion, followed by a Hickory Fare catered dinner and a performance by country music artist and Lindale alumnus, Wayland Hicks.

The Association will also be honoring their 2014 Distinguished Award recipients at the event.  The Distinguished Alumni Award is given annually to an LHS graduate whose achievements, strength of character, and citizenship serve as a model to inspire and challenge current students.  The Distinguished Service Award is given to a former LISD faculty member or other individual whose outstanding service greatly contributed to the success of the district.  “One of the rewards for service on the Alumni Awards Committee is to read about the accomplishments of LISD graduates that I was unaware of,” said Kenneth Cline, a member of the Alumni Association and an LISD school board member.  “This years’ awardee is an excellent example.”

Tickets are $25 per person.  For more details and a registration form, click the “Browsable Document Library” link on the right side of this screen, under the “Lindale Alumni Pages and Links” section.  From there you may download the “2014reunioninvitation.pdf” file.  You may also contact Gay Nell Pyland at 903-571-6065.

The Alumni Association is proving—regardless of what year you graduated—that it’s always in style to be a Lindale Eagle.

The Lindale ISD Alumni Association has closed the nomination process for the 2014 Distinguished Alumni and Distinguished Service Awards.  The 2014 awardees have been selected and will be announced very soon.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is given annually to a Lindale High School graduate whose achievements, strengths of character and citizenship serve as a model to inspire and challenge current students.  The Distinguished Service Award is given to a former Lindale ISD faculty member or other individual whose outstanding service greatly contributed to the success of the Lindale Independent School District.

The Association began the Distinguished Awards program in 2011.  The first recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award was given to former east Texas educator, Elton Caldwell.  The Service award was given to long-time LISD teacher and current retired volunteer, Bob Ashcraft.

In 2012, the Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Kelli McGonagill Finglass, the director of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.  The Service Award for 2012 was given posthumously to Dr. Earl C. Kinzie, a Lindale M.D.

The Distinguished Alumni Award for 2013 had two recipients, Charles "Chip" Arnold II, Assistant Attorney General, and Dr. Ray Perryman, a nationally recognized economist. The 2013 Distinguished Service Award also had two recipients, E.W. "Rack" Tindel and Zonell Rice, both former LISD educators.  The award for Zonell Rice was given posthumously.

The details of the past recipients' accomplishments are recognized below.

2013 Distinguished Award Recipients

Lindale ISD Alumni Association 2013 Distinguished Awards

The Lindale ISD Alumni Association honored two Lindale High School graduates with the 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award, and two outstanding former teachers with the 2013 Distinguished Service Award on Friday, September 27, 2013.

Nationally recognized economist, Dr. Ray Perryman, and Assistant Attorney General, Charles “Chip” Arnold, II, were presented with the Lindale ISD Distinguished Alumni Award.

Former Lindale educator, E.W. “Rack” Tindel, was presented with the Lindale ISD Distinguished Service Award. Mrs. Zonell Rice received the Distinguished Service Award posthumously. Mrs. Rice passed away on September 18, 2013. Eugene McClenny accepted the award on behalf of Mrs. Rice and her family.

Dr. Perryman, Arnold, Rice and Tindel were recognized during the Rotary Club of Lindale’s Annual Hamburger Supper prior to the homecoming football game. Community members stopped by the Lindale ISD Alumni Association’s table to meet and greet the distinguished honorees.

The award recipients were also honored on the field during a pre-game ceremony prior to the Eagles’ game against the Pine Tree Pirates at Eagle Stadium. The honorees were presented with trophies at the 50-yard line following the announcement of the 2013 Lindale High School Homecoming Queen.

Distinguished Alumni Dr. Ray Perryman is one of the nation’s leading economists. He is a 1971 graduate of Lindale High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Baylor University and a doctorate in economics from Rice University. He spent ten years as a Herman Brown Professor of Economics, five years as professor and economist-in-resident at Baylor, and another five years as business economist-in-resident at Southern Methodist University.

Dr. Perryman is the author of several books, more than 400 academic papers and 2,000 trade articles. He publishes a subscription forecasting service and a monthly newsletter, writes a syndicated newspaper column and appears regularly on National Public Radio. He is president and CEO of The Perryman Group, an economic research and analysis firm in Waco. Dr. Perryman has received citations from governments of several countries, presidents and governors. He has been nominated for the Bank of Sweden Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics.

Charles “Chip” Arnold, II, is a 1976 graduate of Lindale High School and is currently the Regional Administrator and Assistant Attorney General for the state of Texas addressing child support issues. Arnold holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and a master’s from the University of Texas at Tyler in education. He received his doctor of jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law in 1990 and in 1991 was admitted to the State Bar of Texas with an attorney and counselor at law license.

Arnold has served as Assistant District Attorney in Smith County prosecuting child abuse cases, a Regional Director leading the East Texas Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services and Child Care Licensing. He is a founding board member of the Lindale Library and has also served on the board of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County. Arnold is also a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) legal trainer and volunteer.

2013 Distinguished Service Award recipient Zonell Rice is former teacher and taught in the Lindale ISD from 1946-1982. She taught typing, shorthand, accounting and was an annual staff sponsor. She attended Paris Junior College and East Texas State Teachers College where she also earned a master’s degree in education.

E.W. “Rack” Tindel is also a recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Service Award. Tindel taught in the LISD from 1954-1961. He was a math and science teacher at Lindale High School and coached football, basketball and track. He served on the board of trustees of the LISD during the 1970’s and was instrumental in the construction of a new high school campus.

Tindel is still an ardent supporter of Lindale academics and athletics and is a member of various booster clubs.

“We are so pleased to be able to recognize this extraordinary group of former Lindale students and teachers,” LISD Alumni Association President Gay Pyland said. “We received several nominations for many deserving people and the awards committee felt it was time to honor these four with the distinguished awards. They have most certainly earned the recognition.”

The Distinguished Alumni Award is given annually to a Lindale High School graduate whose achievements, strengths of character and citizenship serve as a model to inspire and challenge current students. The Distinguished Service Award is given to a former faculty member or other individual whose outstanding service greatly contributed to the success of the Lindale Independent School District.
